The Richmond Gem & Mineral Society, formed in 1956, serves the Richmond Metro and surrounding counties and is open to anyone with an interest in rocks, minerals, gems, fossils, lapidary, geology and other related fields. The society is a member of both the Eastern Federation of Mineralogical and Lapidary Society (EFMLS) and the American Federation of Mineralogical Society and offers a place where like-minded individuals can gather to share knowledge, learn and enjoy “rock talk.”
There is time for fellowship prior to the start of the meeting where one can see rock and fossil specimens members have collected, and lapidary pieces. Social time is followed by a short business meeting, a guest speaker and a social snack break. The society sponsors field trips including rock hounding digs, group educational trips, and fossil hunts. The society also enjoys Rock Rappers, a monthly informal gathering at our Historian’s home to show and discuss identification of various specimens.
